Follow-up of the project

Date: August 31st 2016

Name project: Project 54D – Jya mu bandi mwana – Construction project phase 4

General status:

At the moment we have 36 children in the new centre. 24 of them are following classes and having kiné where the others are following classes in a nearby primary school, in inclusive education.

Progress since last status report:

Electricity is installed in all buildings of the centre: classes, dormitories, kitchen etc. The classes are fully ready regarding painting, barza (covered terrace extending the threshold of a building), electricity etc. as well as both dormitories.

The toilets and sanitary are partly done; a lavabo and English toilet are bought but not yet installed. For this we hired last week a specialist to install the tubes and the drains for waste water; he decided to make the wholes bigger; this will take somewhat more time but all should be finalized by the end of September.

The kitchen and stores are almost done; remaining is the painting and purchase of cooking material etc.

For the garden and the fence we wait for the rainy season so trees have sufficient water. The fence with shrubs is ready, remaining are the trees to be planted along.

The pitch for sitting volleyball was not prioritized but will be done in the coming weeks. The construction of paved paths for the disabled children as well as the spot for the guard will be done simultaneously, together with the volleyball pitch, after the canalisation.
Same for the divers: a concrete water tank and the biogas installation.

Workforce Development Authority (WDA) promised to help us as long as the construction works are ongoing. We plan to have the technical school ready in January.

Follow-up september 2016

Greetings,

Excuse for the delay. Since this morning there were problems with the internet connection.
Last time I sent some pictures, maybe you didn’t receive them. Currently I sent you other photo material. This shows the current situation in the Centre JMBM. Some pictures of the covered galleries will follow. Furthermore, the work on electricity is finished. Several works are ongoing, we shall now proceed with the tiling of the paths and the electrical installation in all rooms.
It is always a pleasure to be able to work together with you. Thank you very much for that! Xavérine, coordinator.

Repointing outer walls and checks of pillars 5.240.000
Pavements and covers (roofs)     1.510.000
Electricity installation in all buildings 2.910.000
Construction of the kitchen 3.118.050
Closure and outside site finishing 2.355.000
Total 22.560.750

Problems/concerns:

All materials for the sanitary installation are delivered but the technician only shows up on irregular times; works needs to be finalised before end of November.

Shrubs are planted around the dormitories and the refectory. Currently it is the short rainy season; therefore all is growing well. Related to the finalisation of the yard: as trucks are still driving on and off we wait for the final clean-up to start these activities.

To be beneficial the biogas installation requires a higher number of habitants. We wait for the arrival of a high amount of children.
