Additional dormitory for the Joy Children center

Description of the project:

New national guidelines, after Covid-19 pandemic, state that in dormitories the distance between the beds should be minimum 2 meters and decked beds are no longer allowed.
This implies a lack of space and beds in the Joy center.

Objectives:

Provide a safe shelter and education by constructing an additional dormitory, with 60 single beds, in the Joy Children center in Okweta.

Beneficiaries:

The children and youngsters currently staying in the Joy Children center as well as new ones.

Budget:

Needed budget is 84.679.800 Uganda Shillings, i.e. 20.200 €

Risks:

Lack of maintenance of the facilities: we’ll make sure all repairs and maintenance are done when relevant, which has been proven on the current facilities.

Follow-up of the project

Date:                          August 17th 2021

General status:

The construction work immediately started after funds receipt and is at roofing stage. Walls are ready, including inside and outside plastering. The roof construction has been started and the iron sheets have been delivered this week.
The doors and windows are purchased as well as the beds, where we’re still waiting for the 20 last ones.

Financial status:

The funds arrived well and are spend according to the budget.
