ACTIVITYREPORT  OF THE ASSOCIATION TIC* AT THE HORIZON

Michel-Ange César NDAGIJIMANA
president NEW HORIZONS July 4th 2008

1. INTRODUCTION

On April 14th an association started for the students of the small seminar of Kanyosha. This team got the name TIC (*TIC: Technologie, Informatics, Communication) at the Horizon and was started to realize the project LABORATORY FOR EDUCATION OF YOUNGSTERS IN TIC.

This is a project of the association 'NEW HORIZONS' financed by 'VLEUGELS VAN HOOP',
a Belgian association. 'New Horizons' is very grateful tot hem and hopes to realize bigger projects with the support of Vleugels van Hoop.
The main purpose of TIC at the Horizon is to introduce the students of the small seminar in the world of informatics, by bringing them in contact with these technologies. As this matter hardly does has borders the first phase will focus on the informatics.  The leading of the club is formed by students themselves. The classes are organized by members of 'New Horizons', as agreed in the cooperation agreement between the small seminar and 'New Horizons'.

2. REALISATIONS

The opening of the club took place during the 3rd trimester. The activities started after the openings ceremony in the presence of both the rector of the small seminar of Kanyosha and the professors at the same institute. The students reacted in a massive way on the invitation to participate in the club activities. They confirmed to be very happy with this, already long expected initiative of the seminar.

On agenda were following themes:

  1. General introduction to  TIC
  2. Introduction to informatics
  3. The parts of a PC
  4. Use of Windows XP

Due to unforeseen circumstances the club had to cancel some sessions. 6 sessions were planned, only 3 took place.

The themes touched on were:

1. General introduction to TIC
2. Introduction to informatics
3. The parts of a PC

3. PROBLEMS

Power interruptions caused a delay during day 1. Fortunately one could rely on the electro group of the small seminar, during the openings ceremony, an advantage we didn’t had during the sessions.
The second problem was the rented numeric video projector. This one had to be picked up and brought back every time wit hall risks on damage. These displacements caused considerable delays.
We also have to mention that a shortage in good teachers is a reasonable problem. Only 2 members of the association are able to give these kind of trainings. On top these people are not always available.
Related to the other sessions is an extra problem the lack of PC’s as practical exercises are necessary to be build in.

4. RECOMMENDATIONS

Based on the past following needs are coming up:

  1. Purchase of a numeric video projector
  2. Purchase of a electro gene-group
  3. Training of the teachers
  4. Purchase of PC’s
